Abe and Andrea Huber
Abe was born in 1960 and grew up in southern Brazil. He attended a New Tribes Mission school in Brazil. Abe loved playing soccer, studying math and was usually the winner in any Bible knowledge quizzes. In his adolescent years, Abe had considered other occupations for when he grew up, but by high school he was sure of God's calling-to be a missionary in Brazil. He became a Christian while travelling down the road in a Volkswagen Beetle! He and his Dad were coming back from visiting some churches and Melvin shared the plan of salvation with his son. Young Abe knelt down and received Jesus as his Savior.
After graduating from high school, youthful and energetic, Abe wanted to do a two year Bible course in Brazil. His Dad encouraged him to get a bachelor degree from Columbia Bible College in South Carolina. In 1977, Abe enrolled at CBC at the age of 17 and upon graduation returned to Santarém, a city on the Amazon River, to work with the PAZ churches there.
Andrea, a Brazilian, was born in São Paulo and moved to Santarém when she was three. She and her family still live there. In grade eight she was crowned "Miss Olympic" in a beauty contest. In high school she loved playing basketball. She's the middle of three children and was introduced to Christianity in her early teens by her grandmother, who took her and her sister to church. She became a Christian but really started to grow when her uncle invited her to a PAZ church. Andrea was 16 when she started going to a PAZ Bible study taught by....Abe Huber. Abe wasn't real content being single, like his older brother Tim was, but had learned to trust in God's timing. Living out Mathew 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God-then everything with be given to you". Eventually God did lead them together and they were married on May 11, 1991. They settled and still live in Santarém.
Since 1983, Abe has served as pastor of the PAZ Central Church in Santarém, which now has about 10,000 members and 2,000 cell groups. Since 1989, Abe has also been director of the Santarém regional base, which oversees more than 300 PAZ churches. Abe and Andrea were married in 1991 and have three children: Priscilla, David, and Daniel.
In April, 2005, Abe and Andrea, along with 40 other Christian couples and many single people, moved from Santarém to Fortaleza to open PAZ's 10th base and establish a new PAZ church. Fortaleza, located on the northeast coast of Brazil, has 2.3 million people and is located in one of the least evangelized regions of Brazil.
